A mezcal that helped define the category: spicy, citrusy, and elemental.
The Benchmark
Tucked deep into a steep, arid valley in Oaxaca lies the village of San Luis del Rio. This bottling, one of the original Del Maguey releases, helped awaken the world to the depth of true artisanal mezcal. It is the legacy of the late maestro Paciano Cruz Nolasco, whose mastery lives on in every drop.
San Luis del Rio is mezcal in exquisite equilibrium. The nose opens with bright citrus of orange and grapefruit peel, draped in a veil of clean, elegant smoke. On the palate, the fire arrives: warm ginger, cinnamon bark, and a flash of peppery heat that settles into roasted agave sweetness. This is a timeless spirit that built backbars and rewrote cocktail programs.
How to Enjoy
The perfect balance of smoke, citrus, and spice makes this an ideal choice for a classic Oaxacan Old Fashioned or for sipping neat.
